For those of you not in the area, we have experienced a devastating flood, but are on the recovery road.

My class originally started school on Wednesday, August 10, 2016, but quickly ended as school was cancelled Friday, August 12th and has remained closed through this unbelievably surreal week. We have watched the waters rise and fall at unprecedented and historical levels while destroying our homes, vehicles, and possessions. For those of us fortunate enough to remain safe and dry, all efforts have been thwarted towards assisting families, friends, and community during this disaster.
On Wednesday, August 24th, 2016 we will once again reboot the start of school to begin once again. It is necessary for our families to grasp some type of normalcy as we move forward. I, along with those able, will report back to school tomorrow to prepare for this very emotional journey.
First grade is a marvelous time of learning and exploration. I love the ride each year! As I contemplate the start again, I have completed the lesson plans and posted assignments for the week.
I wonder how my students are and what they will need to talk about and share? I am reminded that plans are only a framework to support the learning, and it is the whole child that must be nurtured. I am sure various emotions will cross my door on Wednesday, and these agendas will be relaxed, flexible, and adjusted to fit all the needs that I greet while welcoming my families back again.
